Lawton responds to Bader's claims about her family life

EAU CLAIRE (WAOW)--Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton is outraged by comments from a conservative radio talk show host.

Monday, Jerry Bader, claimed on WTAQ 1360 that Lawton dropped out of the 2010 race due to a controversial affair. However, Bader is retracting those claims saying he's lost confidence in the sources that provided the information about Lawton.

Earlier today, Lawton responded to Bader. "I am outraged that somebody who has served the state with distinction and dignity has to suffer that kind of slur," Lawton said in an interview with our Eau Claire sister station WQOW. "And my family who has suffers attacks every time I ran would have to suffer this. I will be celebrating in two weeks my 36th wedding anniversary, we have two children and four grandchildren and this is an outrageous lie."

On Monday Lawton announced that she was stopping her campaign for governor and won't run.

In an e-mail to supporters she cited "very personal reasons" for bowing out. The message did not go into further detail.
