WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - An Assumption High School football game-winning touchdown gains more than a thousand hits on YouTube.

And it lands a nice check, also in the thousands, for the school with the possibility of much more.

This play during week three of the high school football season scores a touchdown for Assumption.

The video of this play scores $2500 in a nationwide contest.

Eric Scharff entered the video in a contest sponsored by State Farm Insurance. He also caught the touchdown pass that was thrown by Nick Buntrock on a fake reverse. Videos are posted on YouTube and fans across the country vote on their favorite play based on the "wow" factor.

Buntrock: "(On the play) I looked for Eric right away because I was kind of nervous. I saw there were two defenders in front. And he ended up making the catch."

Scharff: "Just the four people are right there. Anyone of them had a chance to get that ball. I ended up being able to pick it up over them."

Eric wasn't even aware he won at first. An email from State Farm sat in his inbox for about a week. When he showed it around teachers and students couldn't believe it.

Principal Joan Bond: "He walks in and hands me an email with his name on it. I'm reading it and it says he won $2500. I asked him if it was real."

Scharff: "I can't walk around school without some teacher saying something about it. Just today two people shook my hand for winning it."

The play was voted one of the top 25 for the first half of this football season. More videos are being submitted for the second half of the season... and Assumption is in the running for the grand prize of $15,000.

Bond: "I actually sat down and watched alot of the other videos. And I think we can win it."

Buntrock: "I think we can get it. We have to have people vote for us."

Scharff: "There's some other good videos but we have that wow factor."

It's called Abbotsford Catch on Youtube.  This is a link to the video.  The votes are based on the star rating below the picture window.

Eric thought some of the money could go toward new football uniforms and the rest to the school.
