Helping Hospitalized Veterans

WAUSAU (WAOW)--There's an effort underway in our area to help hospitalized veterans in Tomah. Janet Hoffman of Kronenwetter spearheaded the project. She began putting together tray favors for hospitalized veterans. Now, she and two friends work together on the project.

The group buys candies and non-sweetened items (for those who have health issues). The treats are bagged and then personalized with hand-made "Thank You"  notes. The women put together 300 of these party favors for 10-11 holidays a year. They say they enjoy working together and brightening the holiday for those who have served their country and cannot be at home.

The women would eventually like to expand their efforts to recognize the veterans at the VA Home in King.  If you are interested in donating your time or money to their project you can call Janet at 715-359-8166.

Also, the VA in Tomah has a list of items the veterans can use:

1.) Puzzle book (crossword, jigsaw, search-a-word, suduko)

2.)Board games

3.) Personal items (combs, shampoo, soap, deodorant

4.)Writing paper, envelopes, stamps

5.) Coffee (regular & decaf)

6.) Snacks ( individual items like jello, pudding, fruit cups, crackers, candy

7.) Sugar-free drink mixes

*No hot chocolate as there is enough at the facility right now
