Republic Airways to establish hub in Milwaukee

Associated Press - November 10, 2009 2:25 PM ET

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Republic Airways will establish an airline hub in Milwaukee County, a move that will retain 800 local jobs and could bring hundreds more to the area.

The company said Tuesday the jobs include work on flight crews, in call centers and on aircraft maintenance.

Republic bought Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines on July 31 and Denver-based Frontier Airlines two months later. Many of the new Milwaukee jobs are expected to come from Frontier's operations in Denver and Las Cruces, N.M.

The company can earn up to $27 million in Wisconsin tax credits by meeting certain job and investment goals.

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. is an aviation holding corporation based in Indianapolis. It also owns Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines, Shuttle America and Lynx Aviation.
