WAUSAU (WAOW)--The Wausau Firefighters Union has agreed to concessions in their contracts this year in an effort to stave off 2-4 layoffs.
In a press release, IAFF Local 415 President Ted Tautges says, “Out members felt that this loss of personnel would lead to an unacceptable compromise of our safety as well as our ability to provide safe and effective services to the residents of Wausau.”
In that same press release, Tautges presses city leaders to abstain from any layoffs. “We trust that you will follow through in your earlier commitments to do everything in your ability to prevent layoffs and honor our actions by staying any order for temporary or permanent layoffs within the department and allow our members to continue providing the highest quality services to the citizens of Wausau without interruption.”
Wednesday night Wausau leaders announced 10 temporary layoffs in the Department of Public Works and 2 furlough days for all city employees.
