MADISON (WAOW)--Officials from the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing have announced that a former Wausau alcohol and drug counselor who was jailed for having sex with a client will not be allowed to renew her certification.
In September, Jacqueline Clifton of Eau Claire pleaded guilty in Marathon County Circuit Court to felony sexual exploitation by a therapist as part of a plea bargain.
Prosecutors say the 32-year-old Clifton was fired from her job as a counselor at ATTIC Correctional Services.
In 2006 she was accused of having a sexual relationship with two of her clients. A prosecutor says one of Clifton's male clients stayed with her for more than two weeks while he avoided probation agents.
Clifton will spend 9-months in jail, 5 years on probation and do 50 hours of community service.
Clifton's certificate expired in February 2007 but she could have renewed it in the future if no action was taken.
