BAGHDAD, Iraq (WAOW) -- Newsline 9 viewers got the chance to take a look at what Thanksgiving Dinner is like for local soldiers who are serving in Iraq.
The 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team got to eat turkey and all of the fixings.
About 100 turkeys and 35 hams, among other Thanksgiving favorites, were served during the feast.
Private First Class Aaron Niemann of Edgar says their dinner is not like Mom's cooking, but it's better than nothing: "Its about as close as you could get to it without actually being there. The food is here but its not Grandma's cooking. It's not the family atmosphere but the new family of the guys I've been deployed with over these last months and what more could you ask for."
Iraq is 9 hours ahead of Central Wisconsin, with dinner being served at the Forward Operating Base Prosperity in the International Zone in Baghdad.
Troops say those at home should be thankful for what they have.
"I think everybody back home should really appreciate what they have because you don't realize what you have until you don't have it anymore. This really makes you miss being at home and all of the pleasures and liberties you have at home." says one soldier.
There are currently 3,200 soldiers from Wisconsin serving in Iraq.
