Antigo native Justin Berg gets set to head to Cubs spring training
By Russ Owens
(WAOW)- It's not every day where a Central Wisconsin native gets the pitch for a major league ball club. But for us, we're lucky to have two right now in Washington's Jordan Zimmermann from Auburndale and Antigo native Justin Berg.
Berg of course on the Cubs staff on the mound and he gets set for his second year with the team as he will leave for spring training in Mesa, Arizona on Monday.
Berg, who struck out seven to just one earned run in 12 innings last season, was in town over the weekend to put on a clinic at the Wisconsin Baseball Academy and he talked about his excitement for the new season.
Says Justin Berg, "Getting ready for that, I'm pumped, ready to go, just looking forward to the season you know I'm just gonna go down there and have fun and keep doing what I'm doing. You know I had a pretty good September callup last year, and I'm just gonna try to build on that and keep moving forward and not try and control anything outside my circle and just keep doing what I'm doing and have fun."
