WAUSAU (WAOW)--A forgery case unfolds at a Wausau Bank.
Police say yesterday M&I Bank in downtown Wausau reported five counterfeit $20 bills. Four of them had the same serial number.
"Generally when we receive bills that are all with the same serial number, they come from the same source. Not necessarily the same person passing them but generally it would indicate that the same person produced them," says Deputy Chief Bryan Hilts of the Wausau Police Department.
Police say an area business deposited the bills not knowing they were fake. Now authorities turn to the business owner and any surveillance video to find the culprit. Bank leaders say no reimbursement fund exists for people who turn in counterfeit money.
