Northwoods citizens pushing to recall Sen. Jim Holperin

EAGLE RIVER (WAOW) -- The 14 Democratic Senators who fled the state are assumed to be just over the border in Harvard, Illinois. It's that extended stay out of state that has citizens in the Northwoods pushing to recall their Senator.

Sen. Jim Holperin is in his 3rd year serving the people of the 12th District. Because of his hiatus from Madison, some of his constituents in Eagle River are now trying to recall him.

Kim Simac filed papers for an exploratory committee on Friday. She says she's been getting calls from people all over the district, upset over the absence of their representation at the capitol.

"What I'd really like him to do is come back to work," she said. "Because most of us have a lot better things to be doing with our time than this. So this is me asking to Sen. Holperin to please come back to work and represent your people."

Simac is the founder of the Northwoods Patriot Group, but said in this case, she's only acting as a concerned citizen. She said the next step is to circulate a recall petition.

She believes they need to get between 15,000 and  20,000 signatures over the next few weeks.

We have not yet been able to reach Senator Holperin for a response to these recall efforts.
