WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Who says snowmobiles are only for winter or meant to say on dry land?
Not members of the International Watercross Association. They like to challenge what snowmobiles are made for.
Each year drivers come out to Sunnyvale Park in Wausau to see who can take their snowmobiles across the pond the fastest.
The sport started right here in Wisconsin as a test of sorts.
IWA Promoter, Amy Rhyner says, "They wanted to see just how far a snowmobile could go across the water. At first it was just distance. Then when they figured out they could go for a long distance, they wanted to see who could go the fastest. After that, somebody decided to turn. That's where the ovals come into play."
Drivers can compete in two different races; drag, to see who can go across the water the fastest and oval, to see who can turn the best without sinking.
