MEDFORD (WAOW) -- A company that laid off almost 3 dozen workers in Merrill and Medford is now filing for bankruptcy.
Hurd Windows and Doors first cut into its workforce back in May.
At that point company leaders said they didn't expect any further staff reductions.
Now they say high lawsuit costs that resulted from the purchase of another company are forcing them to make this move.
Medford's mayor says he's talked with Hurd leaders who have assured him they will work to preserve the jobs in that city.
Still there's concern.
Medford's Mayor says "In these economic times it is a concern to us when anything like this happens because Medford is pretty dependent on the window industry."
Hurd leaders hope the filing will ultimately increase the company's stability.
