STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Police say the UW-Stevens Point student that fell off the roof of a downtown building last week had gone to the roof to smoke.
Sergeant Greg Bean of the Stevens Point Police Department says the Kayla Wilke, 20, of Sturgeon Bay fell about 35 feet after falling off a roof's ledge.
Newsline 9 has learned Wilke remains in critical condition at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Bean says that alcohol was involved.
Wilke was attending a party early Friday morning at one of the upstairs apartments in the building.
Someone kicked open a locked door to a stairway to the roof and about five people went there to smoke.
Bean says an eyewitness told investigators that Wilke sat on a ledge, apparently lost her balance and fell, either backward or off to one side.
