WAUSAU (WAOW)--Today shoppers in Wausau picked up gifts at a unique holiday market. The event organizer is asking people to think beyond the shopping mall. Non-profit organizations were among the 30 vendors at the market. They suggested making donations as a Christmas gift.
"We have opportunities for people to donate to Heifer International, so the gift is going to people in need. The person on the gift list receives a honored card in honor of the holidays," says Event Organizer, Sally Schmidt.
The alternative market featured many local products. The idea is to keep dollars in the community to support small businesses. There was also many environmentally-friendly gifts, like jewelry made from recyclable materials
