Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Awards

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- State Superintendent Tony Evers was at the capitol Monday giving awards to nine projects that enrich the quality of life for rural communities in Wisconsin.

"We can find ways for our rural communities to have family-sustaining jobs," said Evers during the ceremony, "so that our young adults have a choice in where they live, not where they have to live."

The "Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin" awards were given out to the following projects:

  • 2009 Coleman High School Career Fair
  • Education Through the Arts (Washington Island School)
  • Food-4-Thought (Prairie du Chien Area, Seneca, and Wauzeka-Steuben school districts)
  • Green and Growing: Washburn School District Garden Project
  • Parent University (Flambeau's Community Education Program)
  • Sober Cruising (Birchwood, Shell Lake, New Auburn, Northwood, and Luck school districts)
  • Splash of Red Cranberry Tours (Pittsville High School)
  • Together for Jackson County Kids
  • Wilton Public Library Literacy Outreach (Norwald-Ontario-Wilton School District)
