Authorities: Money motivated son to kill parents

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- La Crosse County sheriff's officials say money motivated a West Salem man to kill his parents.

Chief Deputy Jeff Wolf says Eric Koula went to his parents' town of Barre home May 21 and shot 65-year-old Merna Koula as she sat at her computer. Wolf says Koula then shot his 68-year-old father, Dennis, when he returned home from working at a Black River Falls pharmacy.

Family members tells the La Crosse Tribune that Koula once owned several car dealerships with his father, but now trades stocks and bonds online. Probate records show the Koulas left their $500,000 home to their son and daughter.

The 40-year-old Koula could be charged Friday in La Crosse County Circuit Court.
