MADISON (AP) -- The state's first black district attorney begins his new job in Dane County on Monday.
Gov. Jim Doyle appointed Ismael Ozanne Dane County District Attorney to replace Brian Blanchard, who was elected judge for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. He became an assistant district attorney in 1998, but left in 2008 to become executive assistant at the state Department of Corrections, a political appointment. He later became deputy secretary of the department.
The 39-year-old tells the Wisconsin State Journal that it's hard to believe he's the state's first black district attorney. He hopes he can help change perceptions and stereotypes.
