STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- UWSP leaders are welcoming the first official live mascot to the school.
McKenzie is a 2 year old English Pointer.
She's a rescue dog that was adopted last year by 2 UWSP alumns.
Now, she's training to make public appearances at the university.
She'll go to sporting events and even poke her nose in the residence halls, giving high fives along the way.
Rob Manzke, McKenzie's Owner, says "People know her whether we're on campus or off campus. They usually stop and say 'Hi, McKenzie,' No matter where we go. They know her. They do. They know who she is."
McKenzie should start showing her face more often next spring.
Back in the 70's, a group of students had a dog that was considered by some to be the university mascot, but that was never made official.
