STEVENS POINT (WAOW)-- This week's winners are students from the Successful Teen's Class at Ben Franklin Junior High in Stevens Point!

When President Obama took office, he prompted people to be better citizens and volunteers, since then the students in the class worked on projects that impact citizenship and caring.

Four students in particular, Kerren Kollock, Leah Hill, Melanie Leopold, and Hannah Klein spearheaded a special project called, "Give a Best Friend".

The group wanted to provide comfort to kids who are taken to St. Michaels Hospital.

So, they decided to give huggable teddy bears to children during their hospital stay.

The group developed a plan to raise money, publicized the project, and even spoke before the faculty at Ben Franklin to share their idea.

The students wrote thank you notes to anyone who donated to the cause, and even created tshirts to help solicit donations.

The students then deliver the teddy bears in person, and have come to realize what a difference they can make in the Stevens Point community, and in little ones lives.

This project is ongoing, and the girls hope to continue it for years to come.

We had the opportunity to visit with the students and talk one on one with them about how they came up with the idea, they were so enthusiastic, and really care about helping young children feel at home while they're in the hospital.

If you would like your school to be on Wake Up Wisconsin be sure to email us at with all your nominations.
