‘Chucks Sign University of Dallas Southpaw
WAUSAU, WI - May 11th, 2009 - Gabe Sandersius, a junior at the University of Dallas, has signed a contract with the Wisconsin Woodchucks and will be heading north to Wausau this summer. Sandersius is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder for the Crusaders (23-15-1).
The 6'1" lefty from Tempe, Arizona is the Crusaders' team leader in many pitching categories. Sandersius is tops in games started (15), complete games (6), innings pitched (89.1), and strikeouts (90). He carries a 3.73 ERA, while opponents have hit a mere .221 against him.
Sandersius has put up some decent numbers with a bat in his hand, too. He is hitting .314 this spring with five triples and four homeruns. He is also tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 10.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country.
