WAUSAU (WAOW)-- This week's winner's are Mrs. Eutting's 3rd grade class at John Marshall Elementary in Wausau.
Back in December the third graders learned to sew buttons after reading a story in class.
They decided to make a "button blanket" and gave it to resident of the Health Care Center.
The day before Valentine's Day the students walked over to visit the residents and presented their blankets, they also sang some love songs in honor of the holiday.
When the students returned back to class, they expressed interest in wanting to start visiting the residents of the HealthCare center on a regular basis.
Before they knew it, each student was assigned a Grandfriend, and they've been doing activities ever since.
They celebrated Easter together and sang the National Anthem at during a softball game against the fire department last week.
The students absolutely love spending quality time with their grandfriends, and their teacher is hoping to have 2 more special visits before the end of the school year.
The students talk about their plans to stay in touch with their Grandfriends over the summer, and are interested in maintaining their friendships in the future.
I had a chance to visit with the students and they were such a joy to be around, they each had a note card with questions for me... and they were absolutely adorable.
Their enthusiasm and commitment to their project sets a great example for people young and old.
