Pilot dead in ultralight crash near Stanley

STANLEY, Wis. (AP) -- The pilot of an ultralight died when the aircraft crashed in a field just west of Stanley.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said the ultralight crashed Wednesday evening about 300 yards west of the Ace Ethanol plant and then hit a garage at a residence. Witnesses told authorities the aircraft was flying westward when it suddenly nose-dived to the ground.

The sheriff described the pilot as a male from the town of Edson in Chippewa County.

His identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.

The Federal Aviation Administration was called to investigate the accident.
