Public Service Commission mulls 220-mile power line in Dane Co

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state's Public Service Commission is expected to decide this week on a proposal to build a power line across part of Dane County.

The proposal comes from American Transmission Co. The Pewaukee-based company wants permission to build between 32 and 55 miles of power line from Middleton to eastern Dane County.

The PSC is expected to make its decision Thursday morning at a public hearing in Madison.

ATC last year completed a 220-mile power line from Duluth to the Wausau area, giving the state access to power from Canada and the Dakotas. That created a second connection between western Wisconsin and Minnesota.

At the time the company said Dane County was one of its priorities for new investments in power lines.
