MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee's police chief says the man who shot and wounded two officers after they stopped him on his bike matched the description of a person involved in some muggings in the area.
Chief Edward Flynn said Wednesday the officers were patting the man down when he pulled a gun and began firing. Flynn says the two officers didn't even have time to draw their weapons.
The chief tells WTMJ radio that the 18-year-old man fit the general description of a suspected mugger and was acting suspiciously.
The wounded officers have been identified as 26-year-old Graham Kunisch, who's hospitalized in critical condition and 21-year-old Bryan Norberg, who's in satisfactory condition. Both are at Froedtert (FRAY'-dert) Memorial Lutheran Hospital.
The suspect was arrested at a house in the area within an hour Tuesday afternoon. Police say they recovered a weapon.
