WASHINGTON (WAOW) -- 2 people are reported dead after 2 commuter trains collide near the Washington D.C., Maryland border.

That's according to a Washington Metro Spokesperson.

A D.C. fire spokesman says other passengers have been severely injured.

He calls the incident a 'mass casualty event.'

The spokesman also says crews are currently cutting apart the trains to get those who are trapped out.

According to the Associated Press, the collision happened around 5 P.M. Eastern time, which is for many in the area, rush hour.
