Madison's Tilted Kilt restaurant closes, employees say checks bounced

MADISON (WKOW) -- Jamie Mendoza is going to be a father again, and the news couldn't have come at a worse time.

"I want to enjoy my little one but in real life I got no money I got nothing," Mendoza says.

That's because he lost his job as head chef when the Tilted Kilt on the east side unexpectedly shut down.

The last check he received was in Mid-May and that bounced.

"$3,000 and I need that money to pay the rent."

Mendoza says he calls former owner Chuck Myers on the daily basis and now only gets his voicemail.

We tried visiting his house in the gated Bishops Bay, but were told he wasn't home and to call back later.

Myers use to own the Kilt on the west side as well.

New management recently reopened it.

Still, the owners of the new Tilted Kilt say they've run into problems because of Myers.

"When we try to buy ads a lot creditors around town say the previous folks owe us money and we are feeling challenges ourselves," says new Tilted Kilt GM Todd Allbaugh.

Mendoza says he's trying to find work as he struggles to put food on the table.

He has this message for Myers.

"I've got family to take care of. You gotta think that we have 3 children to take care of and you can't walk away from that."
