MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Four Milwaukee Brewers players and the Brewers Charities-Selig Scholars Program have teamed up to provide college scholarships to 12 students from Wisconsin.
Since the scholarship program began in 2003, 49 students have received $545,000 in assistance.
In this year's class, five scholarships were given by Mike Cameron, Trevor Hoffman, Jeff Suppan and Rickie Weeks. Six students received Selig Scholarships in honor of Commissioner Bud Selig, who formerly was president of the Brewers.
One other scholarship came from a donation by the Old Time Players Association of Wisconsin.
The awards range from $2,000 to $10,000 and are geared toward students who excel in the classroom but face financial challenges in attending college.
