2 due in court on charges of slaying Fla. couple

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- Two suspects in the killings of a wealthy Florida Panhandle couple are due in court this morning on open murder charges.

Arrest warrants suggest the men went to the couple's nine-room home to rob it.

Byrd and Melanie Billings were shot to death Thursday. Eight of the couple's 16 children were at home at the time. The couple was known for adopting children with developmental disabilities.

According to the warrants, Leonard P. Gonzalez Sr. told investigators he was the getaway driver and waited in a van while his son Leonard P. Gonzalez Jr. and Wayne Coldiron broke into the home and robbed it. He also told police several other men were involved.

The younger Gonzalez and Coldiron are facing open murder charges. The elder Gonzalez is charged with evidence tampering. Authorities say he tried to paint over damage on a red van that was spotted on surveillance video leaving the home.

More arrests are expected, and more charges could be added for those already in custody.
