1 escaped Ind. inmate caught, 2 remain missing

GRAND BEACH, Mich. (AP) -- One of the three men who escaped from the Indiana State Prison has been caught in a southwestern Michigan town by a security guard for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

Grand Beach Police Chief Dan Schroeder says two of the inmates were spotted in the town and one was caught Monday morning and is in custody. Schroeder says the inmate identified himself as Charles Smith, who was convicted of murder.

He says a Grand Beach police officer got a call Monday that a private security guard for Daley was holding the inmate at gunpoint in a home's driveway near the mayor's house in Grand Beach, which is about eight miles from the prison.

Schroeder did not have any further information about the capture.

Authorities were still searching for the two other inmates.
