UW-Madison preparing in event of H1N1 outbreak

MADISON (WKOW) -- In the event of a widespread and severe outbreak of the H1N1 swine flu virus, a pandemic committee has doubled its efforts this summer to prepare the UW-Madison campus for any and all effects.

Campus Health Services Director Dr. Sarah Van Orman said a pandemic committee was set up several years ago.  It has met at least twice as often this summer, following the first case of H1N1 in Wisconsin.

She said strategies being developed include how to better communicate possible symptoms to students and staff, as well as the need to remain home if sick.  Plans are also being developed about how to continuing academic instruction if there are high rates of absenteeism.

Carl Agnelly is following this story and will have a full report tonight on 27 News at 10 p.m.
