PLOVER (WAOW)- Local racing great Larry Detjens was killed in a crash at Wisconsin International Raceway 28 years ago this August.
Now for the 29th and final year drivers will honor the driver in the Larry Dejens Memorial race in Plover on Friday night.
Detjen's nephew Chris Wimmer is one hopeful heading in.
And the Wausau native is confident after winning two races so far this year including beating Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart down in Madison last month.
Says Chris Wimmer, "Yeah definitely, I go into every week trying to win, but to have those two big wins this year, having that going into the last Larry Detjens Memorial, it would be great for me to win it."
