Everest Extreme prepares for nationals

The DC Everest 12 and under softball team makes history.  Bryon Graff features the team called the Extreme... as they embark on a trip to nationals.

The DC Everest Extreme 12 and under softball team have reached celebrity status.

Mackenize Mathies/Everest Extreme 2nd Baseman/Outfielder: "When we won regionals everybody is like, 'That's Everest and we're from Everest. So they're all proud of us."

Why not??? They won state for the second year in a row... but it gets better. The upcoming trip to the World Series is the first in the program's history.

McKayla Schildt/Everest Extreme Catcher/Centerfielder: "It's exciting because everybody wants to go. Everybody wants to play and have fun."

Michaila Schulz/Everest Extreme Rightfielder: "It's exciting. We want to go down there to win and have fun."

Everest Extreme Head Coach Jerry Pagel: "When one of the funnest things I love to watch is when somebody makes a play and they jump up and down and when it's the other team they're just as happy."

Simply put... they're already one of the 8 best 12 and under teams in the nation. And they'd love to finish on top.

Mathies: "We really battled hard. And we all think we deserve this."

Most of these girls have played together for a few years... so communication is solid. Plus they build on last year's experience as state champs when the team was made up mostly of 11 year olds.

Pagel: "It's unreal to get 12 12 year old girls on a plane to North Carolina. It's going to be fun."

The Extreme fly out of Green Bay this week and play their first game in North Carolina this Thursday afternoon.
