Brat Pack director John Hughes dies at age 59

NEW YORK (AP) -- A spokeswoman says 1980's teen movie director John Hughes has died of a heart attack. He was 59.

A spokeswoman for the director says Hughes was on a morning walk in Manhattan when he was visiting family.

Hughes directed several hit films in the 1980's including "The Breakfast Club," "Pretty in Pink," "Sixteen Candles," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

His films made a start out of Molly Ringwald, who made a splash in 1984's "Sixteen Candles." She also starred in Hughes' "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink."

Hughes is also credited with writing "Home Alone." He lived in Illinois and most of his films were set in a fictional suburb of Chicago.
