WAUSAU, WI (PRESS RELEASE) - August 10, 2009 - The Wisconsin Woodchucks have announced that current interim Field Manager Guido Aspeitia will return next year as the full-time Field Manager for the 2010 season. Aspeitia, who took over the interim position on July 16th, led the Woodchucks to a 15-5 record entering the season's final game.
A native of Fresno, Cal. Guido created, executive produced, wrote, and hosted College Baseball Weekly for Fox College Sports. As the Head Coach he led the Northern Ohio Baseball Club to Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League championships in 2000, 2001, and 2003. He was named Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Coach Year 2002 and 2003.
Guido worked at the University of Cal State-Fullerton from 1991-2000. As an assistant coach from 1991-96, Guido led the Titans to a Big West championship in 1991 and a College World Series title in 1995. As the Director of Baseball Operations from 1997-2000, Guido was part of a Regional and Super Regional champion in 1999, as well as Big West Champion in 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
Aspeitia was also part of the 1990 Junior Olympic Baseball Super Series Gold Medalist and American Amateur Baseball Congress national champion Norwalk Cardinals.
Aspeitia worked under the NCAA's all-time winningest coach Augie Garrido, who currently is the head coach at the University of Texas. He also worked under current University of Oregon Head Coach George Horton.
In 2008, Guido led the Regina Red Sox to the Eastern Division Title in the Western Major Baseball League and a semi-final playoff appearance.
Aspeitia has a career .726 winning percentage as a summer collegiate head coach. He is single and has a daughter, Claire Anne Aspeitia (6).
