GREEN BAY (WAOW)-  For a guy from small town Mosinee, Wisconsin, it's no surprise that wide receiver Kole Heckendorf was pretty excited when he got the call from the Packers that he'd be coming to training camp.

Says Kole Heckendorf, "Could'nt have worked out any better, getting the opportunity to play for my hometown team, the Packers. I just started preparing and got ready."

Heckendorf set multiple receiving records at North Dakota State, and he's already turned quite a few heads at camp.

Says Quarterback Matt Flynn, "Other guys at wide receiver are a little bigger and more dominant looking than he is, but he goes out there and runs really crisp routes, he has good hands, he's one of those guys that can run search routes and just gets open. I've been really impressed with him.

Says Wide Receiver Ruvell Martin, "Seems to have a great feel for the defense, a feel for getting open, and he knows what to do and that's the biggest thing really, especially when you're coming in and you're a rookie and a young guy, because if you don't know what to do, the coaches won't trust you and they're not gonna put you in."

And it's certainly helped that he's gotten advice from an experienced receiving corps, especially from Ruvell Martin who also was a free agent.

Says Martin, "I think he's done a great job looking back where he is now, and me coming in my first year in 2004. Looking at other free agents coming in, I think he's done a great job."

Says Heckendorf, "At first I was a little bit nervous coming in, it's a big playbook but I'm learning it the best I can and the older guys and the quarterbacks are really helping me out."

Now Heckendorf cant wait to run out of that tunnel at Lambeau for the very first time on Saturday.

Says Heckendorf, "Even family night was really cool just running out but now we'll actually get another team out there. It will be really exciting, I just have to stay calm, do my assignments and just have fun out there."

Now many of Heckendorf's family members were at the family scrimmage last Saturday but of course that was canceled, so he hopes this Saturday his family will actually get to see some game action.
