"Emergency" TV Star visits Central Wisconsin

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- The star of the former T.V. series "Emergency" is in Stevens Point teaching people about the importance of paramedics, firefighters and EMT's.

You may remember Randolph Mantooth. He's best known for his role as paramedic Johnny Gage.

Mantooth is giving the keynote speech at the 14th annual trauma conference.

He also got a special ride in Ministry Health Care's Spirit helicopter.

He travels across the country talking about how the show "Emergency" created the career path for paramedics.

"Once it was on Television it was like letting the Genie out of the bottle. The rest of the country saw it and said wait a minute is that real? Can that really happen? And then it was no stopping it. From that point on it spawned a whole new business that we call the business of saving lives," says Mantooth.

He says firefighters, EMT's and paramedics saved his life and this is his way of repaying them.
