Yeagley completes first UW soccer staff

MADISON, WI (PRESS RELEASE) - University of Wisconsin men's soccer head coach Todd Yeagley has filled out his first staff with the addition of volunteer assistant coach Chris Munroe for the 2009 season.   A 2008 graduate of Indiana University, Munroe was part of two NCAA championship teams as a goalkeeper for the Hoosiers from 2003 to 2007, serving as a team captain for his senior campaign after originally walking on to the team.   In addition, Indiana claimed four Big Ten Conference championships during Munroe's time in Bloomington.   "We are very excited to have Chris join our coaching staff," Yeagley said. "He has a true commitment to excellence and had a fantastic career at IU, both in the classroom and on the field."   Among his numerous academic awards, Munroe was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team in 2005. He also earned the Jack Tichenor Memorial Award for posting the highest grade-point average of any IU student-athlete in the spring of 2005.   Munroe also served on the IU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee each of his five years at Indiana before graduating with a bachelor's degree in finance in May 2008.   On the field, Munroe's best season in goal came during the 2005 season, when he posted a 13-3-6 overall record in 22 starts, had 10 shutouts and posted a goals-against average of 0.71.   Munroe joins Yeagley and assistant coaches Keith Tiemeyer and Ernie Yarborough on the Badgers' staff.   "Chris will assist us in a number of areas, but his emphasis will be on training our goalkeepers," Yeagley said. "I really like what Chris brings to the table for our keepers in terms of experience and intelligence and I really feel that, when you combine him with Keith and Ernie, we have one of the finest coaching staffs in the nation."   The Badgers open training for the 2009 season on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in preparation for exhibition matches against UW-Parkside (Aug. 24) and preseason No. 3 Akron (Aug. 29). The season officially gets underway with a match against Virginia Tech in the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational, Sept. 4 at the McClimon Complex.   - 30 -     -- Brian Mason Athletic Communications Assistant University of Wisconsin
