MADISON (PRESS RELEASE)- The Big Ten announced the 2009-10 men's basketball conference schedule on Wednesday. Here are some notes about Wisconsin's schedule.
Wisconsin will play 15 games vs. Big Ten teams who appeared in the 2009 postseason, including 11 games vs. 2009 NCAA Tournament teams. Including the non-conference schedule, the Badgers will play a minimum of 14 games vs. 2009 NCAA Tournament teams.
All 18 games of UW's Big Ten schedule will be televised to a national audience. Wisconsin will play at least four games on ESPN or ESPN2, one on CBS (at Michigan Feb. 6) and will appear on the Big Ten Network 12 times. Television plans for the Badgers' final Big Ten game at Illinois are to be determined.
Wisconsin will only face Minnesota and Iowa once in the 2009-10 regular season. The Badgers will travel to Minnesota on Feb. 18 and host Iowa on March 3. UW has won eight consecutive home games vs. the Hawkeyes and has never lost to Iowa at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin will open the Big Ten schedule at home for the first time in three seasons, ating back to an opener vs. Minnesota on Jan. 6, 2007. The Badgers have won six consecutive Big Ten openers and 10 straight conference home openers.
The Badgers face Ohio State to open the 2009-10 Big Ten slate. Wisconsin hasn't opened vs. Ohio State since 1978.
After a one-year hiatus, Wisconsin will welcome Michigan State to the Kohl Center on Feb. 2. Under Bo Ryan, the Badgers have never lost to the Spartans at home, owning a perfect 6-0 record.
