Brewers are swept by Pirates for first time in three years after the 3-1 series finale
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Paul Maholm allowed one run pitching into the eighth inning, Ronny Cedeno homered and the Pittsburgh Pirates finished a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 3-1 victory Wednesday night.
Delwyn Young added two hits and an RBI and Matt Capps pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save for Pittsburgh, which entered this series on a four-game losing streak, having lost 12 of 13 and 17 of 20.
Mike Cameron and Alcides Escobar had two hits each for the Brewers, who have lost four straight.
The Pirates won their first series since taking two of three from Milwaukee from July 20-22 -- having gone 0-6-1 in series since.
Maholm (7-7) allowed eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts to win for the first time in seven starts.
