GOLDEN SANDS (PRESS RELEASE)-  Brandon Selle opened the season with a win at Golden Sands Speedway, then had to wait 15 weeks for another in the Late Model class Friday night August 21st. Brandon started pole, and wasted no time getting in front of Jeff Weinfurter. By the time 10 laps had gone by, Weinfurter had drifted to 5th, and Mark Eswein and MG Gajewski were hotly fighting for 3rd. They swapped the position a time or two, until Gajewski settled in at 3rd for about 20 laps. Fast qualifier Brady Baldry did not get as much good use out of new tires during the Feature as he had for the timing event, and hung around in the back half of the field, as racers like Tim Hintz and John Totzke Jr. passed several cars mid-pack. The final 10 laps saw Eswein pass Gajewski, who faded to 9th suffering a possible tire problem. Eswein grabbed the point lead with his 3rd place run. Hintz meanwhile led Jeff Weinfurter and Chris Weinkauf toward the front to finish 4th 5th and 6th. Mark Mackesy drove a very steady race to finish 2nd. It seems like more, but only 11 Fridays have the Late Models been able to run a regular points night, mostly because of rain delays and special events. Seven different drivers have won, and Selle is now in a race within a race to not only win a points championship, but also vie for the most Feature wins. Gajewski has 3 , Eswein, 2, and Selle now has 2. With only 3 nights left, Eswein, Keith Bohmsach, Weinkauf and Selle are all separated by a toal of 18 points! Mark Mackesy and MG Gajewski are mathematically still in it, but those top 4 racers would have to completely miss a Feature for any chance to make a real gain.

Matt Raykowski led 22 out of the 25 lap Super Stock Feature Friday night to win his first main event in the last 2 years of racing. Matt pulled in front of Scott Hamel, who looked like he had a chance to catch Raykowski, but never came within less than a car length and finished 2nd. The race for 3rd was a 5 car fight most of the race, with Gary Wosick, Dean Burby, Ryan Hinner, and Michael Gwidt along with Colin Reffner trying for the spot. Wosick managed to fend off hard-charging Reffner for 3rd, who maintains a 6 point lead on contender Gwidt, who finished 5th behind Reffner in 4th.

The Pure Stock event was an incredibly wild show, getting to full song after Jeffrey Gruber's car stalled in turn 3 on lap 2 and was removed. After the restart many racers looked for 3-wide outside passing to advance, among them Fast Timer Kyle Genett and Mike Kasperek. As Kasperek raced along the outside, Eric Buchholz tried a 4-wide move on the inside, and the resulting squeeze bumped Kasperek off the track and into the front straight water barrels. Kasperek's car careened to about 90 degrees from horizontal, spun completely around, and landed on its tires just past the flagstand. As stunned fans watched, and officials sped toward the scene, Kasperek threw the car into reverse and rejoined the race! After restarting in the rear because of the caution, he took advantage of the next 15 laps to race his way back to 7th, remarking to one of the alert folks in the pits that the car seemed to handle better after the wreck! As Kasperek drove his sturdy mount towards the front for the second time, Kyle Genett was letting it all hang out in the 3rd groove, passing fast cars like Ryan Mork and Darren Jackson for the lead with a daring style that now has him in the points lead. Ryan Mork's 2nd place run has him 3 points back, and Brent Weiland will make them both honest, hanging back by 18 after his 4th place finish. Jackson placed 3rd, and Jake Capek posted 5th.

The Cruisers ran quick races, with Stock Class drivers Kalata and Mcintee edging Nelson and Radtke, who finished just ahead of Harvath and Coulthurst. Spritka and Berg continued their Mod season sweep ahead of Beaulieu & Andrich, followed by Wheelock and Miller.

Sunday Afternoon racing continues with a special event including Late Models, Super Stocks, 4C Mods, Cruisers, Pure Stocks (Times Gates Open at 11 am - Time Trials at 1:15 pm and Racing at 3 pm).
