Big Ten schedule released for women’s basketball

MADISON (PRESS RELEASE) - The Big Ten Conference officially released its 2009-10 women's basketball schedule today along with this year's Big Ten Network lineup. The Badgers play four games on the network this season, including one non-conference game (Green Bay) and three Big Ten games.

Wisconsin's 18-game conference slate begins in the middle of its non-conference portion of the schedule. The Badgers open the Big Ten schedule on the BTN when they travel to Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 6 for a 1 p.m. game against defending Big Ten champions Ohio State. After the OSU game, Wisconsin has three more non-conference games before continuing with the Big Ten schedule.

The first conference game in the Kohl Center this year is Dec. 28 when Michigan State comes to town. Wisconsin then spends New Year's Eve in Iowa City, Iowa for a game against Iowa.

The month of January features five home games at the Kohl Center, two of which will air live on the Big Ten Network. Wisconsin's games against Purdue (Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m.) and Northwestern (Jan. 31 at 4 p.m.) will be broadcast on the BTN.

Wisconsin is on the road for most of the month of February, but ends the 2009-10 conference slate at home against Iowa on Feb. 28. This year's Big Ten Tournament will once again be in Indianapolis and runs from March 4-7.

Now that Wisconsin's schedule is complete for 2009-10, here are some notable things about this year's slate:

  • For the second year, the Badgers only play Minnesota and Northwestern once. Wisconsin heads to Minneapolis Feb. 4 while Northwestern comes to town in January.
  • With the addition of the Big Ten schedule, Wisconsin plays nine teams that were in the post-season in 2009. Five Big Ten teams (Purdue, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State and Minnesota) played in the NCAA tournament while Indiana joined the Badgers in the WNIT. Three non-conference opponents made the post-season last year with Marquette and Portland State playing in the WNIT and Green Bay in the NCAA tournament.
  • The Badgers will also have a presence on the with Web streamed games. The conference will announce the times for those games at a later date.
