WAUTOMA, Wis. (AP) -- The Waushara County sheriff says a teenager shot and killed in a Redgranite home had been engaging in horseplay with multiple firearms prior to his death.
Sheriff David Peterson says 14-year-old Shane L. Zweck of Wautoma and at least two other juveniles had been fooling around with the guns for several days before Tuesday's fatal shooting. Zweck was shot in the chest by a long barrel rifle and died at the scene.
Peterson says the firearms and ammunition had not been locked in a secure cabinet or equipped with trigger locks. He says the local district attorney is reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.
Redgranite is about 30 miles west of Oshkosh.
