Rep. Obey heads to Kennedy's funeral

By Team Coverage

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Congressman Dave Obey attended the groundbreaking ceremony at UWMC Friday, but left as soon it was over to head to Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral in Boston.

Obey said he wanted to make sure he didn't miss it.

The Congressman also said Kennedy would have loved a project like the one at UWMC.

"As you know, Ted Kennedy for years chaired the education and labor committee in the senate and he would've been very interested in a project like this if he was still around." said Obey.

In 2000, Kennedy came to Wausau to campaign for Obey.

UWMC leaders broke ground for the $6.8 million facility Friday that's been in the works for 5 years.

The 33,000 square foot building will house offices and 4 programs currently in UWMC's man building.

It's all part of Marathon County's 25 year plan.
