Candle light vigil for the birthday of a missing Antigo teen

ANTIGO (WAOW) -- It's been almost 3 weeks since Kayla Berg was last seen in the Wausau area. Kayla turned 16 Saturday, and friends and family gathered at a special candle light vigil in her honor.

Through the somber glow of candles, dozens of faces could be seen praying for the safe return of their friend and daughter.

"It's terrible," said Kayla's mother Hope Sprenger. "It's horrifying. It's the worst feeling in the world. I just want her back."

Kayla Berg turned 16 years old on Saturday. And friends and family came together at her high school in Antigo to celebrate the milestone, and also pray for her safety.

"I just want Kayla to be in everyone's prayers and to find a way safe way back home," her mother said.

The group sang some of Kayla's favorite songs and shared memories from times spent with Kayla.

"I remember her hyperness," said Kayla's friend Megan Jaje. "No matter what, she was always jumping down the hallways happy. There's nothing that could bring her down usually."

The family has a Sweet 16 birthday cake, but they say it won't be cut until Kayla comes home to have the first piece.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Kayla Berg, please call the Langlade County Sheriff's Department at 715-627-6411.
