Accused Milwaukee serial killer in court Wednesday

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee man accused of killing seven women over 21 years could find out Wednesday whether he will stand trial.

Prosecutors say Walter Ellis' DNA was found on the women and two others, who died between 1986 and 2007. Investigators believe eight victims were prostitutes who were strangled, although one was stabbed in the neck as well, and one was a runaway whose throat was cut.

The 49-year-old unemployed laborer hasn't been charged in the deaths of the runaway and one of the suspected prostitutes.

Ellis' attorney Russell Jones said his client maintains his innocence. Jones said he wants to test the DNA on the victims to determine whether it indeed belongs to Ellis.
