Wis. National Guard offers program for teens

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Applications are now being accepted for the next class of at-risk youth at the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy in Fort McCoy.

The Academy offers high school dropouts or habitual truants a chance to earn a high school equivalency diploma, learn job and other skills. The next session begins Jan. 14.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 16 years and nine months old but younger than 19, have been expelled or dropped out of school and be at least a year behind in credits.

Candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or be on adult parole or probation.
