(PRESS RELEASE) - UW Marathon County brought home both the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference (WCC) Western Division and Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association (WJCAA) State Championship trophies this weekend while finishing the season 20-0-1.

The Huskies took first in pool play going 3-0-1.  In the semi-finals match UWMC faced off against UW Washington, the team that beat UWMC in last year's final and reigning Conference Champions.  Having not faced each other since last year's championship match, it was all UWMC this time around, as the Huskies won handedly, 25-13, 25-14.

The championship match proved to be a good one as UWMC faced off against UW Richland for the third time in less than a week with each of the previous matches being well fought.  In each of the previous match-ups the teams had split the first two games, and this time it was no different as UWMC won the first by a score of 25-18 while falling short in the second, 21-25.  With the third game going to 15, the score was knotted up at 8-8 before a UWMC timeout helped fuel a final push leading to an exciting 15-11 win.

Starting Right side/Setter Klare Kalepp (Abbotsford) and Libero Jenn Timm (Tomahawk) were named to the All-Tournament team.  All-State and All-Conference awards will be announced at a later date.

Co-Captain Jenn Timm: "Our team played with heart this whole tournament and season.  I'm so proud of everyone and couldn't have asked for more!  Love you girls!"

Start setter Katie Archambo: This was the best experience I've ever had.  I couldn't have asked for anything else.

Coach Matt Greenberg:  I'm happy for the team and what they've accomplished.  The players set goals for the season and it's a real credit to them for seeing them through.  It's a fast, yet demanding season as many players have had to miss classes, work and time with family and friends.  I hope that they feel that their time was well spent and that they've grown as people through their experience.
