MERRILL (WAOW) -- A visitation and memorial service was held this evening for a beloved Merrill High School teacher and coach. Hundreds of people waited in line to say good bye to Sally Pfund who passed away on Friday. The line wrapped around the Merrill High school gymnasium and overflowed into the hallway.
Tearful students said how Pfund will be missed as a teacher, coach and mentor. One player remembers how Pfund kept her spirits up on the volleyball court.
"Sometimes I look at her and She'll smile and make me smile. And I have great memories of her. She taught me a lot," says Jordyn Anderson.
Nearly 40 people wore T-shirts with Pfund's hand print over their hearts. The hand print was taken at the hospital during pfund's final days. Her best friend, Barb Anderson, says Pfund will be in everyone's hearts forever.
"It doesn't matter what you did or where you came from, Sally touched you in so many different ways. She'll never be forgotten," says Anderson.
Pfund died early Friday morning after suffering a massive stroke during surgery for a brain aneurysm.
