MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State lottery officials have validated a $31.4 million Powerball ticket, meaning Doug Miron of Marinette is the big winner.
Miron's ticket was validated Thursday, hours after lottery officials announced that a Marinette convenience store sold the winning ticket.
Lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage says Miron will take his jackpot in a lump sum. That works out to $16.7 million, or $11.2 million after taxes.
Miron will participate in a check presentation Monday. Lottery officials say he will refuse any interview requests before that.
Bohage says Miron was so excited when he found out he won Wednesday's drawing that he jumped for joy -- and pulled a muscle in his leg.
The jackpot is Wisconsin's sixth largest since the game was introduced in 1992.
