MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Republican small business owner in Rice Lake says he intends to challenge incumbent Democratic state Sen. Bob Jauch of Poplar next year.
Dane Deutsch says he decided to challenge Jauch over concerns about high unemployment and high taxes. Deutsch says he will be focused on working to keep businesses and good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and stopping what he called "big-spending government."
Deutsch is a former Air Force officer and owner of computer security and Internet services companies. He also owns a gym where gymnastics is taught.
Jauch was first elected to the state Assembly in 1982 and has been in the Senate since 1986. The northern Wisconsin district includes all of or parts of nine counties.
